Who I Help

Dave is 44. He runs his own business, has two kids and a wife who needs him around at weekends, not stuck in a gym for two hours. He used to train regularly and felt strong. Somewhere in the last five years, between school runs, deadlines and takeaways eaten at his desk, he's put on a stone and a half round his stomach. He's tired most days, avoids taking his shirt off on holiday, and knows he “should sort himself out” but has no idea how that fits into a week that's already full.

AssumptionComposite persona built from your three avatars.
02Niche Worksheet

Why They Need Help

On the surface, they want to lose the belly fat and feel stronger again. Underneath that, they're scared of what getting older actually means: less energy, less confidence, less of themselves. Most of them have tried to fix it alone and failed, so what they really need isn't another plan, it's someone who can tell them what actually matters and hold them to it.

03Niche Worksheet

Their Frustrations

  • I can't seem to lose this belly fat no matter what I try.
  • I keep starting Monday and falling off by Wednesday.
  • I don't understand why I'm eating “healthy” and still not seeing results.
  • I can't find a plan that fits around my job and my family.
  • I keep getting conflicting advice from every fitness account I follow.
  • I don't have two hours a day to spend in the gym.
  • I can't remember the last time I felt confident with my top off.
  • I keep telling myself I'll sort it out when things calm down, and they never do.
04Niche Worksheet

Where They Go Wrong

  • They cut calories too hard, too fast, and burn out within a fortnight.
  • They copy a training programme built for someone half their age.
  • They treat “healthy” food as unlimited and overeat it.
  • They chase cardio for fat loss and neglect strength training.
  • They try to fix everything at once instead of building one habit at a time.
  • They quit after one bad week instead of adjusting and carrying on.
05Niche Worksheet

How I Help Them

I build a training and nutrition plan around the life they already have, not the life a generic programme assumes they have. I teach them to control calories, eat enough protein, lift weights and stay consistent, without gimmicks or extremes. Then I check in regularly, adjust as life happens, and hold them accountable until the new habits stick for good.

06Niche Worksheet

What Separates Me From The Next Coach

  • I'm 45 and have built my own strength and physique the same way I coach: fundamentals, not fads.
  • Every plan is written around the client's actual schedule, not a template with their name pasted on top.
  • I coach men over 40 specifically, so the advice accounts for recovery, hormones and joints, not just calories in and out.
  • Support is direct and ongoing, not a check-in once a month and radio silence otherwise.
  • I don't sell supplements or shortcuts as part of the programme. The plan is food, training, sleep and consistency.
07Niche Worksheet

What My Brand Stands For

  • Getting older is not an excuse to get weaker.
  • The basics, done consistently, beat any fad every time.
  • You can be fit, strong and healthy without giving up your social life.
  • Protein, calorie control, resistance training, walking and sleep will get you further than any supplement stack.
  • A plan only works if it fits into your actual week.
08Niche Worksheet

What My Brand Stands Against

  • I'm against making fitness more complicated than it needs to be to sell a solution.
  • I'm against crash diets and starvation-level calories.
  • I'm against cardio being sold as the answer to fat loss.
  • I'm against supplements being pushed as a substitute for proper food and training.
  • I'm against promising overnight transformations that set people up to quit.
09Niche Worksheet

Love / Hate / What Gets Missed

5 things I love about this industry

  • Watching a man feel confident in his own body again, often for the first time in years.
  • The moment a client hits a PB they didn't think was possible past 40.
  • Seeing someone's energy and mood shift once the basics are in place.
  • The relationships built through weekly check-ins and honest conversations.
  • Proving that age doesn't have to mean decline.

5 things I hate about this industry

  • Coaches selling extreme diets because extreme sells faster than sensible.
  • Supplements marketed as essential when food does the job better.
  • Cookie-cutter programmes sold as “personalised.”
  • Influencers promising results in weeks that took years to build.
  • The constant flip-flopping on what's “good” and “bad” that leaves clients more confused than when they started.

5 things other coaches get wrong

  • They programme the same session for every client regardless of age, injury history or lifestyle.
  • They chase quick wins on the scale instead of habits that last.
  • They ignore sleep and stress and focus only on training and food.
  • They disappear after the sale instead of coaching through the hard weeks.
  • They make clients feel guilty for living a life outside the gym.

5 funny observations

  • Every client swears they “don't eat much” until the food diary says otherwise.
  • Snacking at 9pm apparently doesn't count if you're standing up at the fridge.
  • Everyone's uncle knows a bloke who got ripped doing keto and zero exercise.
  • The gym gets suspiciously busy every January and empty again by March.
  • Men will happily discuss their mortgage in detail but go quiet the second you ask what they actually ate yesterday.

5 things my clients screw up

  • They guess their portion sizes instead of actually checking.
  • They save all their calories for the evening and then overeat.
  • They skip check-ins the week they've gone off plan, which is exactly when they need them most.
  • They compare their week 3 to someone else's week 12.
  • They drink more on social occasions than they admit to themselves.
10Niche Worksheet

My Niche / Brand Values (Final 10)

  • Consistency beats intensity, every time.
  • The basics work. Master them before you look for anything else.
  • Getting older is not a reason to accept getting weaker.
  • Honesty with yourself is the first rep of any transformation.
  • A plan that doesn't fit your life isn't a plan, it's a wish.
  • Progress is a long game, not a two week sprint.
  • Food isn't the enemy. Overeating it is.
  • Confidence is built in the gym and shown everywhere else.
  • No shortcuts, no supplements standing in for effort.
  • Show up on the hard weeks. That's where it's won.
11Niche Worksheet

Who I Don't Work With

  • People looking for a quick fix with no effort required.
  • Competitive bodybuilders prepping for stage.
  • Anyone chasing an extreme transformation at the expense of their health.
  • People who won't communicate honestly about their food or their week.
  • Anyone who repeatedly misses check-ins and makes excuses instead of adjusting.
  • People expecting overnight results in a fixed time frame.
  • Anyone whose lifestyle involves drinking heavily most nights with no willingness to change it.
  • People who treat coaching as a vending machine they can shout at when life gets hard.
AssumptionItems 6 and 7 expanded from Box 7 and Box 8 to reach 8 total.

Limiting Beliefs & Reframes

“I'm too old to get back in shape.”
ReframeAge changes the approach, not the outcome. Clients over 40 build real strength and lose real fat every week on this programme.
“I don't have time to train properly.”
ReframeThe plan is built around your week, not the other way round. It fits into the time you already have.
“I'll have to give up wine, takeaways and my social life.”
ReframeThe plan works around your life. Calorie control means room for the things you enjoy, not the end of them.
“Healthy food alone will fix this.”
ReframeHealthy food eaten in the wrong amounts still causes fat gain. It's about the totals, not just the labels.
“I need to do more cardio to lose the belly fat.”
ReframeStrength training and calorie control drive fat loss. Cardio supports it, it doesn't replace it.
“I've failed before, so this won't work either.”
ReframePast attempts failed because the plan didn't fit your life. This one's built around it from day one.
“I'll lose muscle if I try to lose fat.”
ReframeEnough protein and proper resistance training protect and build muscle while the fat comes off.
“Getting a personal trainer means hours in the gym every day.”
ReframeThe programme is built for a realistic number of sessions a week, designed to fit around work and family.
08Messaging Matrix

Objections & Answers

“£150 a month feels like a lot.”
It works out at roughly a fiver a day for a fully personalised plan, direct support and accountability. Compare that to what you're currently spending on things that haven't worked.
“I don't have time to train consistently.”
The plan is built around the time you actually have, not an ideal week that doesn't exist. Most clients train around 3 to 4 sessions a week.
“I've tried coaching before and it didn't work.”
Most programmes fail because they're generic. This one's built around your job, your family and your schedule from the first conversation.
“I don't want to give up drinking or eating out.”
You won't have to stop. The plan controls totals, not specific foods, so wine and weekends stay part of your life.
“I'm worried I'll lose muscle trying to lose fat.”
Protein intake and resistance training are built into the plan specifically to protect muscle while the fat comes off.
“What if I fall off track during a busy week?”
That's exactly what the check-ins are for. We adjust the plan around real life instead of expecting perfection.
09Messaging Matrix

Reassurance

  • Direct, ongoing support between check-ins, so you're never left guessing.
  • A coach who's built his own strength and physique using the exact same method, at the same age.
  • Real client results with names, numbers and time frames, not vague before and afters.
  • A plan built around your actual lifestyle from the first conversation, adjusted as life happens.

The Beyond Average Project

Getting older doesn't mean getting weaker. For men over 40 who are done starting Monday and quitting by Wednesday.

01 Programme Identity

Alternates considered: Beyond Average Fundamentals · The Beyond Average System

Positioning statement

For men over 40 who are done starting Monday and quitting by Wednesday. A plan built around the week you've already got, not the one a 25 year old's programme assumes you have.

4-phase structure

Phase 1 · Weeks 1–12

Foundation

Calorie control, protein targets and a training split mapped onto the client's actual week from the first conversation. The tracking and check-in system goes in here too, so a man who's never counted a calorie in his life has a structure that removes the guesswork he's used to carrying in his head. Foundation ends when the numbers are second nature and the split runs without prompting.

Phase 2 · Weeks 12–24

Consistency

The habits get stress tested against a real month: work trips, a bad week, a wedding, a run of late nights. Most men don't fail on the plan, they fail on the third Tuesday when life gets in the way. By the end of this phase, showing up no longer relies on motivation, which earns access to harder training in Progression.

Phase 3 · Weeks 24–38

Progression

Training intensity increases and nutrition gets refined as strength and energy improve. Clients start chasing numbers they haven't hit since their 20s or 30s, and the physique change becomes obvious to people around them, not just to them. Progression proves the system works under load, not just in a calm week.

Phase 4 · Week 38 onward

Maintenance

The system gets locked in as a permanent way of running his life, not a temporary block he'll fall off once it ends. This is what separates the Project from a 12 week transformation challenge: there's no cliff edge handing the client back to guesswork.

Delivery method

Training and nutrition delivered through our own proprietary coaching software, so the client's programme, check-in form and direct messaging with his coach all live in one place, rather than scattered across WhatsApp and a spreadsheet. Weekly check-ins, reviewed personally, with adjustments made around the actual week the client had, not the one the plan assumed he'd have. A small, capped private group chat for clients only, used for accountability between check-ins rather than as a content feed. Kept deliberately small so "direct support" stays true rather than becoming a marketing line.

02 The Promise

The outcome

Down 5 to 8kg and visibly leaner within 8 to 12 weeks, with strength numbers climbing past what he had in his 30s by month six, run through a system that never once asks him to skip a Friday pint or a Saturday takeaway with the kids.

Timeframe

First visible change inside 2 weeks. A body he's comfortable taking his top off in within 3 months. A physique and energy level that outpace his 30s within 6 to 12 months.

One-line promise statement

"Lose the belly fat, build real strength and get healthier, without crash diets, endless cardio or giving up your Friday night."

Proof-of-life framing

Every client win gets tied to a specific number and a specific week, not a vague before and after. Michael P lost 6kg and hit gym PBs in 5 weeks. Paul H lost 5.5kg, killed his night time snacking and got under 100kg before a flight, in 7 weeks. Ryan L is down 2kg and seeing his abs for the first time as a shift worker, proof the system holds even when the schedule is genuinely difficult, not just busy.

03 Brand Pillars

Pillar 1 — The System, Not the Willpower

What it is: a structure for food and tracking that runs the decisions for the client, so he's not relying on discipline at 9pm standing at the fridge.

Why it matters: this is the exact gap that sinks most men in this niche. They know what to do in theory and still overeat "healthy" food because nothing is actually being tracked or checked.

  • Why "I don't eat much" and the food diary rarely agree
  • The 9pm fridge stand-up that doesn't count as a snack (but does)
  • What tracking actually looks like when you hate tracking
  • Why willpower was never going to be the answer
  • The difference between a plan and a wish (one fits your life, one doesn't)

Pillar 2 — Built Around the Week You've Got

What it is: training and nutrition mapped onto the client's actual job, kids and social calendar from day one, not a template with his name pasted on top.

Why it matters: this is the biggest objection in the niche, that a plan will take over an already full week. Removing that fear is what gets a busy business owner to say yes.

  • What a training week looks like for a man with two kids and a full inbox
  • Why 3 to 4 sessions beats 6 if 6 never actually happens
  • The plan that survives a work trip
  • Wine, weekends and Sunday roasts, still on the table
  • What "personalised" should actually mean

Pillar 3 — Strength Without an Expiry Date

What it is: proof that age changes the approach, not the ceiling, built around recovery, joints and hormones specific to men over 40.

Why it matters: the deeper fear under the belly fat is that getting older means an inevitable decline. This pillar reframes that directly.

  • Beating your 30s numbers in your 40s
  • Why the same session isn't right at 25 and 45
  • What actually changes in recovery past 40
  • The PB nobody expects to hit twice
  • Why age was never the real limit

04 USP Statement

Formula[1:1 coaching for men over 40 losing belly fat and rebuilding strength] + [a system built around the life you already have, not one you have to rebuild your week for] + [coached by someone who built his own physique this exact way, at this exact age]

Full statement

Beyond Average is 1:1 coaching for men over 40 who want their strength and their waistline back, built around the week you're already living rather than one you're supposed to have, coached by someone who did it the same way himself past 40.

Most competitors in this niche sell either a big-brand templated challenge or an Instagram-first, application-gated programme where individual attention is thin. Neither addresses that the client has already tried and failed alone, usually because nobody built the tracking and accountability around his actual life. Beyond Average wins on the combination of a genuinely personalised system and a coach who's lived the same struggle with overeating and inconsistency, which reads as credible rather than aspirational.

05 Competitive Leverage

Competitor typeWhat they offerBeyond Average instead
Big-brand challenge programmes A proven, templated system sold at scale with strong social proof numbers, delivered through a large funnel with community forums rather than a direct coach relationship. A capped client list, plan built from the first conversation around his actual schedule, no funnel.
Instagram-first performance coaches Strong personal brand, application-only intake, aesthetic and performance-led content, but a large following usually means limited direct 1:1 time per client. Every check-in reviewed personally by the coach who actually wrote the plan.
Cheap app or macro-only coaches A calculator and a generic template, minimal or no real check-ins, accountability in name only. Direct messaging with an actual coach between check-ins, no supplement upsells behind the programme.

One-line leverage statement

"Big programmes hand you a template and a group chat. Beyond Average builds the plan around your actual week, then messages you the day you go quiet."

Content angles

  • What "personalised" means when it's actually true
  • Why a big following and a small client list can't both happen at once
  • The programme that doesn't need a supplement page

06 3 Benefits Model

Every piece of social proof hits these three

  1. Fits into a week that's already full, rather than taking it over.
  2. Doesn't require giving up wine, weekends or eating out.
  3. Direct check-ins that catch a bad week before it becomes a bad month.

Fill-in-the-blank template

"[Client name] lost [X]kg in [X] weeks without giving up [wine / weekends / eating out], training [X] sessions a week around [job / family situation], with weekly check-ins that adjusted the plan every time life got in the way."

Written example

Paul H lost 5.5kg in 7 weeks without cutting out his weekend takeaways, training around a full time job and a young family. Weekly check-ins caught his night time snacking early and adjusted the plan around it rather than expecting him to white-knuckle through it, and he hit his target of under 100kg before a flight.

07 Hero Story

Hero of the past

I overate constantly and never once tracked a calorie, telling myself "healthy" food didn't count against me. I had no accountability, so every slip just quietly became the new normal until the next one.

Clear mission

I'm here to build men over 40 a system that works with the life they've actually got, not one that demands they rebuild their week around a plan.

The bad guy

The enemy isn't the belly fat, it's the generic template sold as "personalised," and an industry that profits from men restarting every January and quitting by March.

Clear goal

A client who's leaner, stronger and more confident, with a system running in the background of his week rather than a plan he has to white-knuckle through.

High stakes

Without changing course, it's another year of feeling tired, avoiding the beach photos and telling himself he'll sort it out when things calm down, which never happens.

Unexpected obstacles

A bad week will happen. A work trip will derail three days of training. That's expected, and it's exactly what the weekly check-in exists to catch and adjust around, rather than treating one off week as failure.

The system I now coach, calorie control, enough protein, resistance training and consistency, was built by fixing my own overeating and lack of accountability first, which is why it's built to survive a real week instead of a perfect one.

08 Brand Feel Examples

How it feels to check in on a Monday after a genuinely bad weekend and not dread it.
How it feels to order what you actually want at a restaurant and still stay on plan.
How it feels to hit a PB in your 40s you didn't hit in your 30s.
How it feels when your coach messages you first because you've gone quiet.
A Tuesday in the life of a client with two kids, a full inbox and a training session that still happens.
What a week of check-ins looks like when nothing goes to plan.
The moment a client stops sucking his stomach in for photos.
What "built around your life" actually looks like on a Wednesday.
Why five good days and two reckless ones is still a normal week here.
The first time a client takes his shirt off on holiday without thinking about it.

09 Top 10 Objections + Rebuttals

"£150 a month feels like a lot."
Rebuttal
That works out to roughly a fiver a day for a fully personalised plan and direct coaching, compare that to what you've already spent on things that haven't worked.
Content hook
What a fiver a day actually buys you here.
"I don't have time to train consistently."
Rebuttal
The plan is built around the time you actually have, not an ideal week that doesn't exist. Most clients train 3 to 4 sessions a week.
Content hook
A training week for a man who genuinely doesn't have time.
"I've tried coaching before and it didn't work."
Rebuttal
Most programmes fail because they're generic. Yours gets built around your job, your family and your schedule from the first conversation.
Content hook
The difference between a plan and a template with your name on it.
"I don't want to give up drinking or eating out."
Rebuttal
You won't have to. The plan controls totals, not specific foods, so wine and weekends stay part of your life.
Content hook
What actually happens to your Friday night on this plan.
"I'm worried I'll lose muscle trying to lose fat."
Rebuttal
Protein intake and resistance training are built in specifically to protect muscle while the fat comes off.
Content hook
Losing fat without losing the muscle you've already got.
"What if I fall off track during a busy week?"
Rebuttal
That's exactly what the check-ins are for. The plan gets adjusted around real life instead of expecting perfection.
Content hook
What a check-in looks like after a genuinely rubbish week.
"I'm too old to get back in shape."
Rebuttal
Age changes the approach, not the outcome. Clients over 40 build real strength and lose real fat every week on this system.
Content hook
Why 44 isn't too late to start.
"I've never really tracked anything before, I won't stick to it."
Rebuttal
Most clients haven't either when they start. The system is built to make tracking simple enough to actually hold, not another spreadsheet you abandon in a fortnight.
Content hook
What tracking looks like for someone who's never done it before.
"I need someone to actually notice if I go quiet, not just send a generic reminder."
Rebuttal
Check-ins are reviewed personally, and if you go quiet, you get a message from an actual coach, not an automated nudge.
Content hook
What happens when a client stops replying.
"How is this different from a big brand programme with thousands of results?"
Rebuttal
Scale is exactly why those results are generic. A capped client list means the plan and every check-in are actually built around you.
Content hook
Why a small client list beats a big following.
